Parametric Dovetail Sliding Lid Box

A fully customizable, zero-support sliding lid box. Designed with a robust dovetail track for a smooth, secure sliding mechanism. Using MakerWorld's Parametric Model Maker F3D support, you can adjust this Fusion 360 project's internal dimensions, wall thicknesses, and edge fillets to generate the exact container you need for hardware storage, trading card protection, board game organization, or desktop clutter. The lid features an integrated thumb-catch for easy opening, and the base geometry is optimized for FDM printing.

 

Make It Your Own in the Slicer

Once you generate your base dimensions, you can easily apply custom text, labels, or logos directly in Bambu Studio (or your preferred slicer).

  • Add Labels & Graphics: Use the slicer's built-in Text tool, or right-click the lid or side walls and select Add Part > SVG to drop in custom vector graphics.
  • Design Tip: Whenever adding text or logos, it is generally better to emboss the design outward rather than debossing it into the surface. This helps prevent bridging issues on the sides and ensures makers without a multi-material system (AMS) can still get perfectly clean, highly visible details on their prints on top.

Dovetail sliding joints cannot be printed in place reliably, so the box and lid must be printed separately. At the time of this upload, the Parametric Model Maker F3D support does not natively handle multi-part or multi-plate prints. Here are solutions to some common scenarios that may occur because of this lack of support.

 

When opening to your slicer, if you receive this message, select “No”.

When opened to your slicer, if your lid is not sitting flat on the print bed surface, Right-click on the box model and select Split > To Parts. The lid should then drop down to the print bed surface.

Print Settings & Recommendations

  • Supports: None required. The dovetail and lid are designed to print completely support-free.
  • Orientation: Print the box flat on its base and the lid flat on its bottom surface.
  • Wall Generator: Arachne is highly recommended for maintaining accurate tolerances on the dovetail rails.
  • Tolerances: The default lidClearance of 0.15 mm provides a snug but smooth slide on well-calibrated machines. If you are using filaments prone to shrinkage or stringing (like PETG), you may want to bump this up slightly.
