Two halves. Two colors. One mesmerizing cube.
This fidget cube splits vertically into two interlocking halves, each filled with a dense array of hexagonal columns. Slide the halves together and the columns mesh into a solid cube — print the two halves in contrasting colors and the result is striking from every angle. The sliding action is smooth and satisfying, completely different from a snap-together cube.
Two versions included:
- Solid — closed faces, with the opposite color showing through as a clean hexagon-dot pattern. Looks like a designed surface texture. Great as a tidy desk object.
- See-Through (Cutout) — open side windows reveal the meshed columns and the alternating colors inside. The showstopper — you can see straight through the honeycomb.
Pick whichever look you like, or print both.
Love the geometric split-cube concept? This is the sibling to my Snap-Together Fidget Cube — same satisfying-fidget DNA, a totally different mechanism.
✨ What makes it special
- 2-part vertical split — slides apart and back together
- Hexagonal column array — dozens of columns mesh as the halves join
- Cross-color effect — each half's columns show through in the opposite color
- Two versions — solid (clean dot pattern) or see-through (open honeycomb)
- Smooth sliding action — gentle, repetitive, satisfying
- Best in two colors — the contrast IS the design
🌈 Print It in Two Colors (do this!)
This model is built for a two-color print. Each half is a separate part, so just print them in different filaments:
- Pink + Blue (shown)
- Black + White for maximum contrast
- Any two complementary colors
When assembled, each half's columns mesh into the other — so you see both colors at once. Single color works too, but two-tone is where it shines.
No AMS / multi-material printer needed — just swap filament between the two prints.

💡 Tips
- Print both halves at the same layer height and settings so the columns mesh consistently.
- Give it a few slides to break in — the action gets smoother with use.
- The See-Through version shows off the two colors best; the Solid version is the cleaner desk piece.
- Two contrasting colors make the best photos — tag me if you print it, I love seeing color combos!
