Description
Trapeze Gymnast: A Classic Mechanical Fidget
The Trapeze Gymnast is a high-energy mechanical toy reimagined for 3D printing. Using a simple squeeze-action frame and the power of string torsion, this miniature athlete performs high-flying flips and 360-degree spins right on your desk. It’s an addictive, tactile fidget that’s easy to print and even easier to assemble!
A Favorite for Kids
This is the kind of toy that kids simply can't put down. It offers instant gratification - one squeeze and the gymnast is off! It’s a wonderful way to introduce children to basic physics, showing them how tension and movement work together in a way they can actually feel.
How it Works
This toy operates on a torsion-tension mechanism. Instead of the figure sliding, he stays centered on a pair of parallel strings.
- The Squeeze: When you squeeze the base of the poles, they tilt inward. This slacks the strings slightly.
- The Flip: As the poles move, the twisting tension on the strings changes rapidly, "kicking" the gymnast into a spinning motion.
- The Momentum: By squeezing and releasing in a rhythmic pulse, you can make the acrobat swing higher and higher until he pulls off a full backflip!
Additional Material: Around 18cm string

Step-by-Step Base Assembly
- Insert the 2 poles structured inside the box through the top holes all the way.
- Squeeze the spring and keep sliding the poles until the 2 tabs fit through the side holes of the box.
- Fit the buttons on the side tabs.
- Fit the bottom closing of the box.
Proceed to the string setup.

Step-by-Step String Setup
- Start at the Left Pole: Pass the string through the top hole of the Left Pole (from outside to inside).
- The First Pass: Pull the string to the Gymnast Figurine. Thread it through the lower holes in both arms, then through the top hole of the Right Pole.
- The Return Loop: Re-enter the string through the bottom hole of the Right Pole.
- The Essential Twist: Cross the string over the first line before entering the upper holes of the figurine’s arms. This "X" twist is what makes the gymnast flip!
- Finish at the Left Pole: Thread the string through the bottom hole of the Left Pole to the exterior.
- The Final Knot: Pull the string taut so the figurine stays upright, then tie a strong permanent knot on the outside of the Left Pole.

Attention: I added a little painted brim at the gymnast figure shoulders to secure a perfect print.
