Summary

Want a replica prop of a modern smoke grenade that has a handle that flies off when you pull the pin?  This model has insertable text, so you don't need an AMS.  This is a replica of the modern smoke grenade that was updated after 2005.

Note: for those of you that have printed my other smoke grenade models, they are replicas of a slightly older generation of smoke grenade that was used until 2005.

Spring options (for flying handle)

  1. Metal Spring (recommended) – if you have a metal spring, even a pen spring will usually work, then print the metal spring profile.  It is designed to work with the Bambu Store's 0.5x7x12mm spring (linked lower on the page).  If you use a pen spring, you can usually cut it in half and get two springs.
  2. Plastic Spring – if you don't have a metal spring, but still want the handle to fly off, then print the plastic spring profile.
    1. If the spring eventually wears out, just print a new one and pop it in.
    2. Don't leave the spring under tension when not using it as it will wear out much faster.
    3. Avoid Matte and Silk filament for the spring itself, Basic and Metal work better.
  3. No Flying Handle - if you don't want the handle to fly off and just want a grenade model, simply print either version and don't put in a spring.

Bambu filaments used

  • Matte red
  • Silk+ Silver
  • Basic Light Gray
  • Metal Iron Gray Black
  • Polymaker Army Green (Amazon link)
    • Bambu Matte Dark Green is the closest alternative

Metal Spring Version Assembly

1. Screw the body sections together like you see below.  Then insert the text into the corresponding holes.  Make sure you shine a light into the holes and make sure all the support material is removed before inserting the text.  Its also a good idea to keep track of the order of the text and insert right after removing the letters from the plate.  Ensure that the curved side is facing out.

2. Insert the peg into the topper as you see below.  Make sure it is sticking out the hole.

3. Then insert a spring just like you did with the peg before.

4. Lastly, screw the topper onto the main body with the red piece in between.  Its best to do this sideways or upside down so the spring doesn't fall out.

Plastic Spring Version Assembly

2. Insert the spring into the topper like you see below, and ensure that the peg sticks out the hole in the silver topper.

3. Lastly, screw the silver topper onto the main body with the red piece inbetween.  Its best to do this sideways or upside down so the spring doesn't fall out.

Boost Me (for free)

If you enjoy my work and would like to help support my ability to share more (and even better) models in the future, please consider boosting or buying me a coffee at the link below.   Your support is what helps me have enough filament and supplies to do all the print testing required for my models to be high quality and easy to assemble.  It takes a mountain of test prints for each model. Thanks :-)

Here's a link to my Buy Me a Coffee page, thanks for the support!
