Description

Audemars Piguet inspired Royal Oak Wall / Desk Clock

This desk or wall clock is a near replica of the AP (Audemars Piguet) Royal Oak. Fans of the brand, owners of the watch, or newer fans inspired by the Royal Pop Swatch collaboration can design and print their own colourways. Either match the original, and iconic designs by AP themselves, or create your own exciting design you wish they would make.

AP Clock Design

The clock prints in several parts, across 4 plates and has a small “watch building” experience to fully assemble. It is made to incorporate the Maker World Clock components kit, and the custom tool makes installation of this even easier. The face plate also hides the mechanisms to keep the watch design as sleek as possible.

Assembly

  1. Slide the clock mechanism through the back of the main body
  2. Assemble the custom tool to help with tightening the nut. Push the pin through the spinner and into the top of the tool. The spinner will help you apply pressure while turning.
  3. Secure it with the provided nut, using the custom tool
  4. Place the face plate over clock mechanism
  5. Add the bezel (this has very slight asymmetry to make sure you have it the right way round. If the holes don’t line up, spin it 180 degrees.)
  6. Attach the bezel using the 8 pins. Make sure to align them in the right pattern for the AP look
  7. Push fit the stand, or filler blocks as desired.
  8. Push fit the Crown with its corresponding pin

Hands

This can be a delicate and fiddly process, so please be patient. I recommend printing both sets of hands so you have spares!

  • Remove the second hand from the black pin the kit comes from
  • Replace it with the newly printed second hand
  • Put the hour hand on first, it can help to brace the mechanism from the back when you do this. The part fits tight, but the clearances are small.
  • Put the minute hand on the next layer – again, be cautious as its brittle, I’ve included as much strength as possible for such a small part!
  • Add your second hand, on its pin, to the top

Note that there’s a chance some of the hands may have bent slightly in the installation, so just make sure they all move without contacting each other.

Insert the battery, and set the time. The design includes space to do both without needing to dismantle anything. There is a small logo in place of the date, just set this to the same colour as the body if you don’t want that, or replace it with something of your own!

Let me know if there are any other versions/alterations you would like to see, and of course please share your creations!
