Because good coffee deserves better than “randomly smashing it with a spoon and hoping for the best.” 😄
This is a 54mm spring-loaded coffee tamper, designed for people who enjoy proper espresso… but also enjoy building cool stuff themselves.
Originally designed for my Alicia coffee machine, but compatible with many other setups using a 54mm filter basket.
And yes, it actually works surprisingly well.
⚙️ Features:
✅ Spring-assisted pressure system
✅ Consistent tamping without needing gorilla strength
✅ Lightweight but sturdy design
✅ Only 16g for the tamper itself
✅ Less than 100g for the main body
✅ Includes optional wall/shelf mounts:
- adhesive version
- screw-mounted version
So instead of leaving it rolling around the kitchen like a caffeinated grenade… you can proudly display it 😎
🛠️ Hardware needed:
Very simple assembly using:
- 1x countersunk screw M6x60mm
- 1x M6 nut
⚠️ Insert the nut during the print pause on the first plate (tamper section) - 1x spring:
- wire diameter: 1mm
- spring diameter: 9.9mm
- length: 70mm
Photos are included for easier assembly reference.
☕ Why the spring?
The built-in spring gives just enough pressure to compact the coffee evenly without overdoing it.
No more:
- uneven tamping
- wrist destruction
- “artisan espresso rituals” requiring engineering degrees
Just press… and coffee magic happens.
🧱 Print Recommendations:
- PETG recommended for extra durability
- All food grade filament
- High wall count suggested for long-term resistance
🔥 Bonus:
Included extra mounting plates let you hang the tamper:
- on a wall
- under a shelf
- beside your coffee machine
- or wherever your caffeine shrine is located
🎯 Final Thoughts:
A tiny project with:
- satisfying mechanics
- practical use
- low filament usage
- and strong “I made this myself” energy.
Honestly… your espresso machine deserves it.
