Description
Bring some playful energy to your desk, workshop, or trophy shelf with the Pickleball Pal! This stylized character captures the pure, fun essence of the fastest-growing sport in the world. Modeled with a cheerful, sunglasses-wearing pickleball face, a backwards cap, a paddle in hand, and dangling tennis shoes, this little guy is the perfect statement piece for any pickleball enthusiast or 3D printing fan.
Designed specifically with shelf-sitting geometry, his legs dangle over any 90-degree edge, making him look like he's just taking a quick breather between tournament matches.
The History Behind the Design
This model was born out of a love for community sports and the unique, vibrant culture surrounding pickleball. I wanted to design something that wasn't just a boring trophy, but a character that has life, personality, and tells a story. After sketching out a few concepts of sports equipment "coming to life," the Pickleball Pal was born. It went through several design iterations to perfect the center of gravity, ensuring he sits perfectly on an edge without tipping backward or tumbling forward!
Print Options & Assembly Instructions
The included .3mf file is pre-configured with 3 separate print options depending on your printing preference and machine capabilities. Fair warning: all three profiles are structurally tough and built to last, so make sure your printer is dialed in!
- The Edge-Sitter (Back-Laying Print Orientation): Optimized to print flat on his back to minimize overhangs for the main body.
- The Standing Model: An alternative version for traditional display surfaces.
- The Pin-Joint Split Legs (Highly Recommended): The body and legs are printed as separate pieces and connected using heavy-duty alignment pins.
Assembly Note: If you choose option #3 (the split-leg pin version), you will need a small drop of adhesive to secure the pins permanently. I recommend ARKA KRAFTPROTZ UNIVERSAL Superglue for an iron-clad, lightning-fast bond that will ensure your Pal's legs never wiggle free!
Filament Recommendations
To get those crisp, clean layer lines and that beautiful pop of color seen in the photos, material choice matters. For this print, I highly recommend using SUNLU PLA Plus (PLA+) filament. It offers incredible impact resistance (crucial for those thin dangling legs and the paddle handle) and gives a gorgeous, vibrant finish that makes the details of the sunglasses and cap absolutely stand out. You can grab your spool directly from the SUNLU Official Website.
Remix Ideas & Alternative Uses
The topology of this model makes it incredibly versatile for remixes! Here are a few ways you or the community could adapt this file:
- Custom Branding: Smooth out the paddle face in CAD to extrude your own local pickleball club's logo or your initials.
- The Multi-Sport Swap: Remix the paddle into a tennis racket, a ping-pong paddle, or a golf club!
- Headphone Stand: Scale him up 300%, reinforce the cap, and let him hold your gaming headset on the edge of your desk.
- Keywords for Remixers: Custom Sports Trophy, Desk Toy, Character Design, Sports Mascot, Filament Art, Shelf Sitter, Articulated Doll.
