16mm corner piece for a grow tent. Included SCAD file for parametric manipulation for your post size.
In addition to 16mm, I've also included 14mm, 18mm, 20mm, and 22mm post size STLs ready to download and slice.
Thank you t0b1 for the excellent OpenSCAD model which made it possible to create this remix!
Overview:
This is a 3-way corner connector made for frames, tents, and DIY builds where rod sizes arent always perfect. The sockets use a straight bore with flexible internal ridges, so the rods slide in easily and the part adapts to small size differences. You should get a snug, centered fit without the harsh resistance of a full solid wall.
The design is fully parametric. You can set your rod size, wall thickness, and other details, and the part updates automatically.
While the original design is fantastic, I wanted to add ridges and make the design more parametric.
Printing Instructions
Layer Height: 0.28 is fine, higher resolution may create nicer ridges; the print orientation and recommended wall loops make for a strong part either way.
Material: PETG, ABS, or ASA is highly recommended.
Walls/Perimeters: Use 3 or 4 perimeters for structural integrity.
Infill: 20-30% Grid or Gyroid. There is not much infill with 4 walls (recommended)
Brim: Outer Brim ~5mm just to be safe.
Supports: NONE. The design is optimized to print without supports.
How to Customize (OpenSCAD)
If the included 16mm/18mm/20mm STL doesnt fit your poles or you want a thicker, stronger part, you can adjust everything in the OpenSCAD file.
Open the file: corner-piece-ridges.scad
Go to the USER CONFIGURATION section at the top.
Parameters (User Configuration)
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| target_rod_diameter | Exact diameter of the rod you want the corner piece to grip. |
| hole_diameter_clearance | Diameter of the straight bore before ridges; set larger than the rod |
| wall_thickness | Wall thickness around the bore. |
| num_ridges | Number of internal friction ridges around the bore. |
| ridge_width_base | Ridge width at the outer shell (wide for strength). |
| ridge_width_tip | Ridge width at the rod contact point (narrow for bite and printability). |
| ramp_length | Length of the ease-in/ease-out ramps at both ends of the ridges. |
Advanced Parameters
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| p | Length of the tube/socket where the rod inserts (longer = more engagement). |
| t | Size (length) of the triangular fins that stiffen the corner. |
Basic Fit Adjustment
- target_rod_diameter
Set this to your exact rod size (e.g., 16, 18, 22). - hole_diameter_clearance
Set this about 12 mm larger than your rod diameter.
This defines the total hole diameter.
The ridges are sized to take up the difference between the hole and the rod.
Fit tuning:
- Tighter / stiffer fit: reduce clearance shorter, stiffer ridges stronger bite.
- Looser / softer fit: increase clearance taller, flexier ridges more give on insertion.
- num_ridges
Change if you want more or fewer friction points. - ramp_length
Adjust how long the chamfered ease-in ramps are.
Advanced Scaling Control
- wall_thickness
Sets the minimum wall thickness around the bore.
The script automatically recalculates the outer diameter of the corner piece.
Increasing this makes the whole part larger and stronger.
Export
Render with F6 and export STL with F7.
