IMPORTANT: For this model you´ll need to use glue. Some pieces (Depending on Filament used and 3D Printer) will fit perfectly in a way where mabe there´s no needed to use glue, even though I recommend you to use it (SuperGlue for small parts and SiliconGlue form big ones, ALSO THERE ARE SOME SMALL PARTS Where you´ll need to use small tools to manipulate them correctly notice this before starting to print).
For this project you´ll need to be very patient, as there´s a lot of very thin parts, due to the complexity of this model, also there´s lot´s of supports wich you´ll also need to remove very carefully. But as you can see the work is worth of your time :)
To have the full details/colours in some components you´ll need to use AMS or Multicolour systems, even though you can still print them in single colour.
The Subaru Impreza 22B STI is one of the most legendary Japanese performance cars ever created, a machine built to celebrate Subaru’s dominance in the World Rally Championship and the company’s 40th anniversary, released in 1998 as an ultra-limited-production widebody version of the GC8 Impreza WRX STI and instantly becoming one of the most desirable and iconic rally-inspired road cars of all time. The “22B” name has become surrounded by mythology, often believed to reference the 2.2-liter engine displacement and Bilstein suspension setup, while also resembling the hexadecimal code for the number 555, connecting it symbolically to Subaru’s famous WRC sponsor.
At its core lies the legendary EJ22G 2.2-liter turbocharged flat-four boxer engine, producing officially 280 horsepower due to Japan’s gentleman’s agreement, though real output was widely believed to exceed 300 horsepower, paired with a close-ratio 5-speed manual transmission and Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, delivering immense traction and explosive acceleration across any surface. Thanks to its rally-derived drivetrain and relatively lightweight construction, the 22B could accelerate from 0–100 km/h in under 5 seconds, while offering exceptional grip and balance on both asphalt and gravel.
What truly made the 22B special was its direct connection to Subaru’s WRC program. The car featured dramatically widened fenders inspired by the rally cars driven by Colin McRae, along with an adjustable rear wing, unique front bumper, Bilstein suspension, forged BBS gold wheels, upgraded brakes, and a wider track that gave the car a far more aggressive stance and improved handling characteristics compared to the standard Impreza WRX STI. Every element of the car was engineered to bring the feeling of a World Rally Championship machine to the road.
The EJ boxer engine delivered the unmistakable Subaru rumble that became iconic among enthusiasts, while the turbocharged power delivery combined with the mechanical grip of the AWD system gave the 22B a raw and highly engaging driving experience that perfectly reflected the golden era of rally-inspired Japanese performance cars.
Only 400 units were originally produced for the Japanese market, with an additional small number later built for export markets, making the 22B incredibly rare from the moment it launched. Demand was so intense that all Japanese units reportedly sold out within hours.
The Subaru Impreza 22B STI became far more than just a special edition—it became the ultimate symbol of Subaru’s rally heritage and one of the defining icons of 1990s JDM culture, representing a time when manufacturers built uncompromising homologation-inspired road cars filled with motorsport DNA, ultimately earning its reputation as one of the greatest and most collectible Japanese performance cars ever created.
For this model I´ve collaborated with Ddiaz Design, this way I´ll be able to release more cars with higher quality using as a starting point his repository meshes: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/1998-subaru-impreza-22b-sti-69fcc7e96cc74acc90daa03b0c133ea4
