Levitating Cube Lamp
Light up your home with Levitating Cube Lamp, a desk piece where a translucent 3D printed cube floats above a wooden-tone base, suspended in mid-air by a magnetic levitation module hidden inside the housing. The cube and the base both come straight off your printer, so the entire piece is fully 3D printable from start to finish. For makers who want to push the edition further, the base is also offered as an optional CNC file, ready to be carved from a block of walnut.
Design & Concept
I designed this lamp around the idea that the base should be the hero, not the same generic black plastic block you see on most levitating lamps. The cube shader is printed in translucent filament for a soft, evenly diffused glow, and a small walnut-tone collar sits between the cube and the floating field to anchor the silhouette visually. The base houses the magnetic levitation module entirely inside its 3D printed shell, so once printed and assembled the piece is a complete desk object, with no extra woodworking required. For the makers who own a desktop CNC, I am also including an optional CNC file of the base, so it can be carved from solid walnut for a one-of-one wood edition.

Printing Recommendations:
Cube Shader:
- Material: Translucent White PLA for a clean diffused glow.
- Vase Mode (Spiralize Outer Contour): Recommended for an even, seamless light wash on all four faces.
Base:
- Material: Walnut-tone wood-fill PLA recommended to keep the warm two-tone aesthetic. Standard PLA in a warm brown tone also works.
