Claptrap Wind Siren
The original intention of creating this was to annoy fellow cyclists on the road (not really). The buzzing sound approaching from afar announces your arrival to fellow riders, giving them a rough time (exaggeration).
This is a passive acoustic device that uses the oncoming airflow from cycling to drive a propeller, which in turn causes a sounding wheel and stator to generate pulsed sound waves. Its core design inspiration comes from the airflow cutting principle of traditional wind sirens.
In actual tests, when the relative wind speed reaches approximately 20km/h, this wind siren can start producing a clear and audible wailing sound. The power source uses an 8040 three-blade propeller. Users can also adjust the activation speed threshold by replacing propellers of different sizes or pitches; for example, using a smaller propeller or a propeller with a larger pitch can increase the wind speed required for sounding, thus adapting to different usage scenarios.
Assembling this model requires the following hardware: one M5 heat-set insert nut and four M3×20mm flat-head screws to secure the end cap and stator; two M5×65mm hex socket screws to mount the propeller and sounding wheel shaft; additionally, four M5 nuts to help secure the overall structure; also needed are two 688 type bearings (inner diameter 8mm × outer diameter 16mm × thickness 5mm) to ensure the coaxial rotation precision of the sounding wheel and stator. It is recommended to use lock nuts or a small amount of threadlocker for all threaded connections to prevent loosening due to long-term vibration.
