Description

Keep your cat mentally stimulated and naturally file their nails at the same time!

I spotted these puzzle boxes on Amazon and thought why not just print my own. The main complaint in the reviews was that they are flimsy and fall apart pretty quickly, so when designing mine I opted to make the whole box one solid piece with only the lid removable. Much sturdier, and your cat can't knock it apart mid-play.

The box features holes on all four sides and the lid for cats to reach in and bat at treats or kibble, and when lined with sandpaper on the inside faces, it gently files their claws as they play.

Cutting sandpaper to fit the inside of a box is fiddly and frustrating, so I've included sandpaper cutting templates right in the same file.

What's included in this file:

  • The box - full enrichment toy with removable lid, holes on all four sides and the top for cats to reach in and bat at treats
  • Floor template - 206 x 206 mm sized to fit the interior base, with a 2 mm inset so it sits flush without bunching
  • Side template - 60 x 210 mm with the exact hole pattern (2 oval slots + 1 circle) cut through, so your sandpaper lines up perfectly with every opening. Use this for all 4 walls

Simply print the templates at 100% scale, lay them over your sandpaper sheet, and trace or cut around them with an exacto knife. The stencil-cut label tells you exactly what each piece is so there's no guessing later.

Print at 100% scale. No supports needed.

There is some bridging involved across the holes so you may get a few low hanging bits on the underside - nothing to worry about. I printed mine without supports and just ran a torch quickly underneath to clean it up.

The box has holes for 6x3 mm magnets to hold the lid in place, and I'd recommend sticking some rubber feet on the bottom so it doesn't slide around while your cat is going at it.

Your cat will thank you. 🐾
