Description
Matrice 4T / 4E Tough Case Desiccant Insert
This model is a permanently enclosed desiccant container designed to fit directly into the OEM foam insert of the DJI Matrice 4T / 4E tough case.
Its purpose is to provide clean, space-efficient humidity control inside the drone’s storage environment without requiring loose packets, separate containers, or anything that shifts around inside the case. The mesh openings are positioned only on the exposed surfaces above the foam slot, allowing airflow to reach the desiccant while keeping the beads securely contained.
The container has no removable lid by design. Once printed and filled, the desiccant beads are permanently captured inside the part, reducing the chance of accidental spills inside the drone case.
Print Orientation
Print the model on its large, flat top surface.
This orientation provides the cleanest exterior surface, keeps the mesh geometry consistent, and allows the print to be paused before the internal cavity is sealed.
Important: Pause Required During Printing
You must add a pause during the print so the container can be filled with desiccant beads before the top layers close the cavity.
The exact pause height may vary depending on your slicer and layer height, but it should be placed after the internal cavity is mostly formed and before the final sealing layers begin.
Once the print resumes, the beads will be permanently enclosed inside the model.
Desiccant Recommendation
Rechargeable desiccant beads are strongly recommended.
Because the container is not designed to open, rechargeable beads allow the entire printed insert to be dried in a food dehydrator or filament dryer when needed. For that reason, a heat-resistant filament is also recommended.
Material Recommendation
I printed this part in carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate for added impact resistance and heat resistance. This allows the insert to be recharged in a dryer without concern for warping under moderate heat.
That said, the model should also work well in other rigid materials, especially if you do not plan to recharge it at elevated temperatures.
Recommended materials:
PLA / PLA-CF: acceptable for basic use, but avoid high-heat drying
PETG / PETG-CF: better heat resistance and toughness
ASA / ABS: good heat resistance
PC / PC-CF: ideal for durability and repeated drying cycles
Print Settings Used
Material: Polycarbonate-CF
Layer height: 0.1 mm
Supports: Not required, if oriented correctly
Infill: Not critical/user preference, as the part is primarily a shell/cavity
Pause: Required for filling with desiccant beads
A larger layer height should also work fine, but 0.10 mm produced a clean finish and well-defined mesh openings.
