Description
Disco Ball for Turntable 🪩
I designed this small disco ball specifically for use on a turntable.
The sphere is made up of 165 facets of 5 × 5 mm.
For the mirror effect, I bought small adhesive mirrors on AliExpress and then glued them one by one onto each face.
Result & Use
My turntable has a small integrated lamp that illuminates the ball directly during playback.
I expected to get real light projections on the walls, but in the end, the effect remains quite subtle.
Even without that, the result is really nice in situ: the ball spins with the record and brings a very cool ambiance during listening.
3D Printing
I recommend:
- Layer height: 0.08 mm
- Supports: tree
- Orientation: sphere upwards, naturally
The 0.08 mm primarily allows for cleaner facets and greatly facilitates mirror gluing.
That said, a higher layer height should also work correctly if you want to print faster.
Compatibility
The central hole is 7 mm in diameter and one centimeter deep, which works well on my turntable.
