- Weather Resistant Glue (Super Glue) x 1: Needed to seal I/O wire slot
Description
Welcome fellow niche hobbyist wanting to weather-proof their temp/humidity sensor!
The idea with this print is that as long as the orientation of the enclosure is vertical, water should not be able to get to your sensor. This is achieved via two design choices:
- Sloped cap structure will have water spill out of the enclosure
- The diameter of the tube inside the cap is too small for water to get through due to water viscosity
In order to minimize chance of water intrusion, it is necessary to apply some super glue or similar sealant to the I/O slot AFTER the I/O cables have been fed through the slot on the bottom of the enclosure. The cap does not require any glue, and simply screws on to the main cylinder.
This design has been field tested on the outside of a window with a SHT31 sensor inside for the past 3 months. There has been zero water intrusion, while still reporting an accurate temp and humidity reading compared against local weather data.
