Smartgateways.nl IR Eye Holder for Kamstrup Multical 21

This is a 3D-printed holder designed to mount a Smartgateways.nl IR eye onto a Kamstrup Multical 21 water meter.

The holder is made to keep the IR reading head stable and correctly positioned in front of the optical IR area on the meter. It is intended to make the installation cleaner, more reliable, and easier to maintain compared to using tape, loose brackets, or temporary mounting solutions.

This design is useful for setups where Kamstrup Multical 21 data is read using a Smartgateways.nl IR reader, for example with Home Assistant, MQTT, or similar smart home systems.

Print Recommendation

I strongly recommend printing this part in PETG.

PETG is a better choice than PLA for this type of installation because it is tougher, more temperature-resistant, and better suited for utility rooms, meter cabinets, basements, or other areas where temperature and humidity may vary.

• Material: PETG
• Layer height: 0.20 mm
• Infill: 20–30%
• Walls/perimeters: 3
• Supports: Only if your slicer requires it
• Print orientation: Print as placed in the profile

Notes

This model was designed and tested for my own setup using a Smartgateways.nl IR reader on a Kamstrup Multical 21 water meter.

Small variations may occur depending on the exact IR head, cable position, and how the meter is installed. Always check that the IR reader is correctly aligned with the optical reading area and that stable data is received before considering the installation final.
