- 3 Pack 3.3FT Battery Powered LED Strip x 1: https://a.co/d/05jaJzqJ
Description
This is my version of a Lithophane Light Box. I couldn’t find a design that included built-in battery storage in the base, so I created my own. The box is designed to work with the 3.3 ft battery-powered LED light strips listed in the materials, and it can also be powered through USB for long-term use.
The light box is sized to fit 100 mm x 100 mm lithophanes. For the best fit, I used lithophane settings of 96 mm height and width with a thickness of 3.2 mm. The margin is set to 2 mm with a margin thickness of 2.8 mm. This brings the total size to 100 mm x 100 mm, allowing the panels to slide cleanly into the slots.
A generic cube has been added to each pillar and into the base, with the wall count set to 10 to help reinforce the structure and prevent the pillars from breaking off. This profile was designed and tested using matte PLA.
The LED strips are routed around the central cylinder and overlapped on the top cap of the cylinder. The inside does not need to look perfect since it will only be visible when swapping out photos. Extra cord length is intentionally left inside the box so the battery pack can be pulled out easily when changing batteries. I’ve been using a small piece of ribbon tied to the battery pack to make removal easier.
There is also a slot next to the battery pack that stores the USB plug when it is not in use. If you plan to use the included LED remote, adhesive rubber feet can be added to the bottom of the box to raise it enough for the remote sensor to work properly.
The LED strips offer multiple shades of white, adjustable brightness levels, and a timer function. Let me know if you have any questions, and I hope you enjoy it as much as my family has!
