Description

I’ve been playing around with different fidget designs, and this is the one I keep coming back to. I really wanted something that felt more "mechanical" than a standard spinner, so I combined a tire tread design with a planetary gear system.

The outer ring has a nice texture like a car tire, while the red gears inside move in perfect sync. It’s small enough to wear while you're working, providing a great tactile way to stay focused without being a distraction.

A Few Notes on the Print

  • Of The Build Plate: When it first comes off the bed, the gears might feel locked in place. Don't worry, just give it a solid twist to snap it free, and it’ll start gliding smoothly after a few minutes of "fidgeting".
  • Material Choice: I’ve had the best luck using standard PLA or Matte. I’d suggest staying away from Silk for the moving parts, as it has a habit of fusing the tolerances together.
  • Aesthetics: I personally love the high-contrast look of a black "tire" with bright red gears, but it looks great in almost any color combo.

Print Settings & Tips

If the tolerances are too tight and the ring feels fused:

  • Try dropping the flow ratio by a few percent.
  • You could also adjust XY size compensation (try 0.02 for the hole and -0.02 for the outer contour).

I’m really happy with how it looks. If you end up printing one, let me know how it turned out!
