Sonos Playbar PSU Bypass Mount (XT30 Adapter)

This model is intended as a proof-of-concept mounting solution for Sonos Playbars with a defective internal power supply unit (PSU).

The design replaces the original power input connector with an XT30 connector mount, allowing an alternative low-voltage DC power source to be connected externally.

 

Important:
This model does not include instructions for electrical wiring, voltage specifications, power supply modification, or PSU bypass procedures. Users are expected to have sufficient electronics knowledge and experience to safely evaluate and perform any modifications independently.

Required Parts

  • Shrinking tube (highly recommended!)
  • 2x M2 heat-set inserts (M2x2.5x3.2)
  • 2x M2x4 mm screws
  • 2x M2x8 mm screws
  • 1x XT30 U-M connector
  • 1x XT30-G-F connector
  • 1x cable tie (optional)
  • Epoxy adhesive (optional)

  • Receptacle Front
  • Receptacle Back
  • PSU Bracket
  • Plug Front
  • Plug Back

Assembly Overview

  1.  Install the 2x heat-set inserts into the Receptacle Front part.
  2.  Mount the Receptacle Front to the original power input opening using the original screws.
  3. Insert the XT30-G-F connector into the Receptacle Front and solder the cables. Use shrinking tube for isolation! Optionally secure it with epoxy adhesive.
  4. Fasten the Receptacle Back to the Receptacle Front using 2x M2x4 mm screws.
  5. Mount the PSU Bracket to the PSU board using the 4 original screws.
  6. Optionally use a cable tie for strain relief.
  7. Prepare the Plug Back by routing the cable through it.
  8. Solder the XT30 U-M connector to the cable end. Use shrinking tube for isolation!
  9. Assemble Plug Back and Plug Front using 2x M2x8 mm screws.

Notes

  • Minor sanding or fitting adjustments may be required depending on print tolerances and the specific XT30 plugs etc.
  • Printing in a temperature-resistant material is recommended.
  • This project is intended for educational and experimental purposes only.
