Description

This model is a faithful replica of the wind spinner seen on Carl Fredricksen’s roof in the animated series Dug Days.

The model is fully functional. While the 3D printing part is easy, the mechanical assembly requires a bit more care. For the movement to be smooth, the mechanical parts must be shaped with precision; please refer to the attached images for guidance. I have also included a bending jig (mask) to help you achieve the exact angles needed for the wire.

Materials and Assembly

  • Mechanical Structure: I used a 2.4 mm brass rod, but other similar materials will work just as well.
  • Eyelets: These can be easily made using standard steel wire and a screwdriver. I choose this way so that anyone can build it with basic tools, not evenone  own a CNC machine. To connect the eyelets to the “pistons” I have used the same brass rod cut in small parts 7mm
  • Assembly: Putting it together is straightforward—just use the connection pins and a bit of glue.
  • Check that the axle is perfectly straight before gluing it into position; it must be completely straight, otherwise it will not work.
  • Propeller Attachment: To secure the propeller to the rod, I filed small grooves into the metal surface and then used high-strength glue “2k epoxy glue”

If you have any trouble during assembly, feel free to contact me and I will do my best to help you!

For assembli follow the image below the right position of some part are indicated with small points on print, give a look a the fusion snapshot .

the hole indicate the opposite side of propeller side, remember to leave 10 mm more as in the pictures
