  • 3/16" Wood Dowel x 1: I found it at Menards for $.79.

Description

Celebrate with these high-quality, 3D-printable American flags. This profile includes two distinct versions:

  1. The Textured Flat Flag: Optimized for a PEI plate to give a professional, fabric-like finish. Perfect for signs, coasters, or wall mounting.
  2. The Wavy Garden Flag: A dynamic, flowing design that looks great in a yard, planter, or as a desk accessory. Includes a built-in mount for a 1/8" (3mm) dowel or rod.

Both models are designed for multi-color printing (AMS/MMU) and are thin enough to be printed quickly while remaining durable.

Print Settings & Recommendations

To get the results shown in the photos, I recommend the following:

  • Plate Type: Use a Textured PEI Plate for the flat flag to achieve that premium matte look on the stars and stripes.
  • Layer Height: 0.20mm works well, but for the Wavy Flag, I recommend Variable Layer Height to smooth out the curves on the "folds" of the flag.
  • Wall Loops: 2-3 loops.
  • Infill: 100% (rectilinear) is recommended since these are thin; it ensures the colors stay vibrant and prevents any light bleed-through between the white and red stripes.
  • Thin Wall Detection: Ensure this is ON in your slicer to make sure the points of the stars crisp up perfectly.

Assembly (Wavy Version)

The wavy flag features a side-sleeve designed to friction-fit a standard wooden dowel.

  • Dowel Size: 3/16 inch.
  • Tip: If the fit is tight, a small drop of CA glue (superglue) will lock it in place for outdoor use.

Filament Used

  • Red: PLA Basic (Red)
  • White: PLA Basic (White)
  • Blue: PLA Basic (Blue)

These are large print times due to the multiple colors, but it is worth the time.  The flat one is considerably less time since it can be laid flat on the print plate.  The wavy one looks amazing, but I had to stand the parts on edge so I wouldn't have to use supports.  I separated the stripes into one print plate and the blue with the stars into another.  Then I glue them together.  I used a tongue and groove joint to help align the pieces.  Happy printing.
