Description

This is a strong, lightweight mount to attach a Garmin Varia RTL515 radar unit to a Trek Domane aero seatpost

I didn't like the look of the elastic band mount that came with my Garmin Varia RTL515 radar so I designed one that looks better (imo) and mounts the radar more securely. This may also work for other radar units or anything that uses a Garmin-style 1/4 turn mount.

You will need some additional items to compete this build (see photos for reference):

  • Garmin 1/4 turn mounting disc: I bought a 4-pack, they're easy to find online. If you buy a different one than pictured make sure the mounting hole spacing is the same!
  • M3 fasteners:
    1. (4) M3 Nuts
    2. (2) M3 Socket Head Cap Screws, 10mm or 12mm length
    3. (2) M3 Flat Head Machine Screws, 6mm or 8mm length

You can print the part as shown in the photos or upside down. It will print either way without supports. I recommend using a strong, stiff filament like PETG-CF (shown in photos).

Once printed, push the nuts into their slots (they should be a bit tight) and attach the mounting disc with the flat head screws. Push the clamping nuts into the hex-shaped holes, snap it onto the seatpost, then secure with the two socket head cap screws. Don't over-tighten the screws, the design creates a strong friction fit with the seatpost.

I went through a lot of iterations to get the right fit, but if you have any issues let me know and I'll do my best to correct them.

Thanks, and please post your makes!
