Description
~.✿.~ Modular Solar Lamp in Wooden Block Style ~.✿.~
Do you want to combine wooden blocks with 3D printing? Then I invite you to print and assemble this lamp/lantern!
In addition to the desired filament, you will need 10 wooden blocks (parquet remnants) measuring 160mmx22mmx8mm and an 8cm diameter solar puck. If you don't have any wooden blocks, you can also find a file here for a suitable 3D wooden block!
My wooden blocks were all 22.6 mm and upwards, which is why I enlarged the cutouts! Since wooden blocks are a natural product, the dimensions vary greatly. If everything seems a bit loose, feel free to use an adhesive of your choice! Assembly requires a bit of patience; depending on the fit of the wooden blocks, it can sometimes take longer for everything to sit in the right place! That's why I developed further and uploaded rails for guiding the wooden blocks in 2mm and 5mm. Test all wooden blocks for fit on both sides, then insert one wooden block at the top and bottom, continue gradually, and finally press everything together. This is ONLY so easy with the 5mm rail!
The 5mm are perfect for us - even if the wood look suffers a bit (but two assembly tantrums are enough for me ;) ). Please let me know if it worked for you too! One can only learn from suggestions/feedback/constructive criticism!
The 3D file includes top parts with and without a bore, and each without a guide, with 2mm and with 5mm. Matching bottom parts are also included. As well as a fit checker (to verify the tolerances of your wooden blocks), a 3D wooden block, and optionally a light trap. Whether you place a decorative flower at the bottom or insert a small glass with an LED tealight instead of a solar puck is entirely up to you! You could also attach an approximately 4cm high ring (for example, from the light trap) that simply covers the bulb of the solar puck. Or you could use 3D-printed wooden blocks in different colors or lengths, or even ones made from epoxy resin! No matter what you use, make your creation truly special!
And perhaps you'd like to share your creation with a photo here?!

Do you want to use it outdoors? Then I recommend printing it with PETG. In addition, the wooden blocks should then be protected against moisture (at least with wax, but preferably with a suitable varnish) or also be made of PETG. This also applies if you want to have the lamp as a decoration in the kitchen near the sink, like me:

This lamp was created because I wanted to work more with wooden blocks again and generate a kind of material mix! Additionally, the learning curve in the CAD program was quite steep, and I really got into it! So I think more extensions will probably follow! For example, a top part with 2 holes for a cord holder, a kind of thread for a short ground spike, and a base plate with an adhesive holder for sticks or rods!
If you also love the rustic charm of wooden blocks and the clean structure of 3D prints, then feel free to stage the lamp according to your wishes!
