Compact 13mm Screw Head Caps

Compact Screw Head Caps Overview

Compact 13mm Screw Head Caps are small printable covers designed to hide exposed screw heads and give furniture, cabinets, shelves, woodworking, MDF, and DIY projects a cleaner finished look. They are useful when a visible screw works structurally but interrupts the appearance of the surface.

This model is designed as a compact two-piece screw cover: the screw passes through the washer-style base, then the round cap closes over the screw head to hide the metal fastener. Compared with longer connected screw cap designs, this version keeps the visible footprint small and leaves only a neat round cover on the furniture surface.

Compact 13mm Screw Cap Advantages

  • Only the round 13 mm cap is visible after installation
  • Two-piece design avoids a long connected tail or strap on the surface
  • Low 3.2 mm height keeps the cover discreet on furniture panels
  • Clean circular shape blends better with cabinets, shelves, and flat panels
  • Fast batch printing makes it practical for finishing multiple screw heads
Compact 13mm Screw Cap Advantages

Exact Screw Cover Dimensions

  • Outer diameter: 13 mm / 0.51 in
  • Cap height: 3.2 mm / 0.13 in
  • Low-profile round shape for discreet furniture and cabinet use

Furniture and Cabinet Use Cases

  • Hide visible screw heads on cabinets, shelves, drawers, desks, and furniture panels
  • Use on woodworking, MDF, plywood, chipboard, and home repair projects
  • Cover screw heads in places where the screw remains accessible but should look cleaner
  • Match filament color to wood, white panels, black furniture, or painted surfaces
  • Good for quick finishing work after assembly, repair, or installation
Low Profile Screw Head Caps

3mm, 3.5mm and 4mm Screw Compatibility

This compact screw cap is best suited for common countersunk universal screws, wood screws, chipboard screws, cabinet screws, and furniture screws in the 3 mm to 4 mm range. These are among the most common small furniture fasteners used in Europe, the UK, and North America, although the names vary by country.

  • Metric 3 mm screws: common small furniture and hardware screws; DIN-style countersunk wood screw head is about 5.6 mm.
  • Metric 3.5 mm screws: very common universal screw size for cabinets and light furniture; countersunk head is about 6.5 mm.
  • Metric 4 mm screws: common for shelves, cabinets, brackets, MDF, chipboard, and woodworking; countersunk head is about 7.5 mm.
  • US / UK #4 screws: close to 2.8-2.9 mm diameter; usually compatible when the head is countersunk or flat.
  • US / UK #6 screws: close to 3.5 mm diameter; one of the best imperial matches for this cap.
  • US / UK #8 screws: close to 4.0-4.2 mm diameter; commonly used for general furniture and cabinet work.

The 13 mm outside diameter gives generous visual coverage over these common screw heads while staying small enough for a neat furniture finish.

Compatible Screw Names in Different Countries

  • Europe: universal screw, wood screw, chipboard screw, furniture screw, countersunk screw, 3x16, 3.5x16, 4x16, and similar lengths.
  • UK: woodscrew, chipboard screw, twinthread screw, countersunk screw, gauge #4, #6, or #8 depending on the supplier.
  • USA / Canada: flat head wood screw, countersunk wood screw, cabinet screw, #4, #6, or #8 wood screw.
  • Best head style: countersunk / flat head. Pan head, washer head, round head, hex head, and very tall decorative heads may not close cleanly under a low 3.2 mm cap.
  • Larger screws such as 4.5 mm, 5 mm, #9, or #10 may sometimes be covered visually, but they should be test printed first because head diameter and head height vary a lot.

Recommended 3D Print Settings

  • Material: PLA, PETG, ASA, or ABS depending on indoor or outdoor use
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm as the standard setting; use 0.16 mm for a smoother visible top surface
  • Walls: 3
  • Infill: 30-100% because the parts are very small
  • Supports: not required
  • Build plate adhesion: normally not required, but use a brim if your material or plate needs it

Fit and Installation Notes

  1. Print one cap first and test it with your screw type and surface before printing a full batch.
  2. Place the washer-style part under the screw head during installation.
  3. Tighten the screw normally, then close the cap over the head.
  4. If your screw head is larger or smaller, scale the model slightly in the slicer and test again.
  5. For best appearance, align the top surface upward and choose a filament color that matches the furniture.

Screw Cap Printing Notes

  • This is a practical hardware accessory for decorative screw hiding, not a structural fastener.
  • Different screw heads and countersinks vary, so a quick single-piece test print is recommended.
  • If you enjoy this model, a boost helps me keep improving practical DIY accessories.
