Description

Updates:

V1.4:

  • Much faster printing and more reliable prints.  PETG-CF is very sticky and clumping is a big problem.  I did my best to adjust the settings to avoid it as much as possible.

v1.2:

  • Refined filament and process models to be much more reliable when printing, with much less nozzle clumping
  • Change screws to be much stronger with a large number of walls
  • Changed support settings so supports break off cleanly and leave beautiful, clean finishes

This is a remix of @waguigui's Filament Storage Rack. The original design was great, but I needed mobility, and the metric pipe sizes were difficult to source in the United States.

I converted the design to Imperial, added support for two different caster sizes, and reinforced the footers so the casters will not pop off when the rack is pulled. I also added a half-height top support with an integrated handle so the rack can be easily pulled out from under a desk. The Print Profile process and filament settings are fully optimized for Bambu Labs PETG-CF to ensure very strong shelf supports. The carrying weight is dictated by your support bar material; I used hardwood round dowels, which are cheaper than metal and easily support 12 filament boxes per shelf. You can stack as many rows as you need, but ideally, the top shelf will be the half-height support with the handle.

Required Tools:

  • Drill
  • 0.120-inch drill bit

Assembly Instructions:

  1. Insert the support bar dowel into the printed support.
  2. Using a 0.120-inch drill bit, drill completely through both the printed support and the wooden dowel.
  3. Insert the 35mm stainless steel dowel pin into the cross-drilled hole to lock the joint in place. This prevents the shelf from coming apart while moving it. (See video for demonstration).
  4. When attaching the casters to the footer plate, use one washer between the caster and the footer plate and another washer between the nut and the footer plate to ensure better weight distribution.
