The Pleated Egg Lamp: Parametric Vase-Mode Pendant

A minimalist pendant lampshade featuring a smooth wave profile that remains visually consistent regardless of the diameter.

Fully Customizable (Onshape)

I’ve designed this to be the last pendant shade model you’ll ever need. Using the onshape model you can modify the following variables to fit any 3d printer, room or hardware:

• mounting_hole_diameter: Default 42mm (Perfect for E27 sets like IKEA HAVSDJUP, SUNNEBY, & HEMMA).
• height: Adjust the total vertical scale. The photos show 250mm.
• diameters (top, mid, bottom): Fine-tune the "egg" or "bell" silhouette. The photos show 80, 225, 170mm.
• pleat_count & pleat_depth: Change the density and "drama" of the waves (use 10-20 while tuning and more to export). The photos show 60 and 4mm.
• top_thickness: Controls the strength of the mounting plate (Default 5mm).

Print Settings

To achieve the premium, rigid feel shown in the photos, this model is designed for a 1.0mm wall thickness.

• Mode: Spiral Vase Mode (ensure your slicer is set to print the solid base layers first).
• Material: White PETG (Elegoo Rapid PETG used for photos). Solid white provides an "opal glass" diffusion.
• Line Width: 1.0mm (on a 0.4mm nozzle! This creates a structural, high-end finish).
• Layer Height: 0.32mm, though I'm sure 0.24 or 0.28 would also be fine.
• Bottom Layers: Set to equal your top_thickness (e.g., 25 layers at 0.2mm).

Given the model is big and single walled, you probably want to use a Core-XY printer. If you're using a bed-slinger, you definitely want to print slow.

Safety First

• LED BULBS ONLY: Even with high-quality PETG, traditional incandescent bulbs generate enough heat to deform 3D prints. The vents should avoid the worst here.
• Weight: At 230g, ensure your cord set is properly secured to a ceiling hook or joist.
