Description

Overview

This is a fully parametric bass reflex port designed for speaker and subwoofer enclosures. It was designed as a sequal to my first parametric Bass Reflex Port Design without flares. The geometry focuses on reducing airflow turbulence and minimizing unwanted noise such as "chuffing", which is common in poorly designed ports.

The model features a straight cylindrical section combined with two smooth, rounded flares. These double flares improve airflow at both the inlet and outlet, resulting in cleaner and more efficient bass performance.

Parametric Design

The model is built in OpenSCAD and can be easily customized using the Customizer. Key parameters such as diameter, wall thickness, length, and flange geometry can be adjusted to fit your specific enclosure.

This allows fast iteration and precise tuning without the need for manual remodeling.

Acoustic Tuning

When calculating the tuning frequency of your enclosure, keep in mind that the effective port length is not just the straight tube.

Effective length = tube length + front flare radius + rear flare radius

Make sure to include both flare radii in your calculations to achieve accurate tuning.

Printing Recommendations

Supports
The flare geometry requires supports for best results. Printing without supports may lead to poor surface quality on the underside of the flares.

Layer Height
Use a lower layer height (0.12–0.16 mm) to achieve smoother curves and reduce surface stepping on the flares.

Orientation
Print the model vertically on the flange for best dimensional accuracy and strength.
