Description

Feather Windchime

A simple, elegant windchime featuring realistic 3D-printed feathers. This design uses thin-wall textures and a lightweight build to ensure beautiful movement in even the slightest breeze.

70g filament and about 3.5 hrs print time over four plates.

Printing & Finishing Instructions

  • Layer Height: Use 0.2mm for a smooth, high-quality finish.

  • Material: PLA or PETG works best for earthy colors with a touch of transparancy.
  • The trick for the feathers: To get the best look, I've designed the feathers with a thin outer edge. Once the print is finished (using MY print profile!), simply use scissors or a craft knife to clip off the outer wall of the feathers for a fluffy, realistic feather texture. If you are stuggling with the feathers make sure you have no top layers and set the infill directions to 135 and 45 respectively, and infill % on the bottom layer should be 55%
  • Multi-Color: This model is perfect for an AMS setup to create beautiful colors on several of the feathers at once.
  • Feel fee to mix and match the feathers and string lengths to your desired set up.
  • 3 included feather sizes, and a base plate with attachment anchors.

Assembly

  • Suspension: Use the included anchors and some string to hang the feathers from the mounting plate.  Threading the strings through first then attaching the feathers.

  • Setup: Hang the chime near a window or outdoors to enjoy the gentle movement in the wind.

Please post your results! Im dying to see what you guys come up with for color combos.

A huge thank you to Billie Ruben for developing the original feather printing technique used in this model. Their innovation in feather technique made this design possible! check them out!
