Description
VENUS OF LAUSSEL, WITH STAND (NON-MAGNETIC)
The Venus of Laussel, also called the Woman with the Horn, because of the object she seems to be holding in one of her hands, is one of the fundamental works for understanding Paleolithic art. It is a female figure carved in limestone, measuring about 50 cm in height and 36 cm in width. It was discovered in 1911 by Dr Lalanne in the town of Marquay, Dordogne, France. It is estimated to be about 25,000 years old. It is currently housed in the Musée d'Aquitaine (Museum of Aquitaine) in Bordeaux (France).
