Board Game Points Tracker
Overview
This magnetic points tracker can be your new companion alongside any board game. Print one for each player and track three resources up to 9; or track points/energy/health/money/fish up to 999! Or assign each player to a row (up to 3 players and 9 points). The sliding action is satisfyingly smooth yet clicky, and accidental bumps and jiggles won't change your set numbers. Use it as a fidget between games.
Materials
- 5x3mm neodymium magnets (33)
- 10mm M3 screws (4)
- M3 hex nuts (4)
See below for purchasing options.
Assembly
- During the pause at layer 49, place 30 magnets in the pockets in the base and resume the print (works best with a stainless steel nozzle as opposed to a hardened steel nozzle).
- Screw the M3 screws into the holes in the base to pop out the supports in the nut pockets.
- Place the hex nuts in the pockets and tighten the screws further to pull the nuts into the pocket. Then unscrew.
- Remove the supports from the sliders, and clean up the support residue with a scraper or knife, ensuring the side is smooth and slides freely in the tracks.
- Put three magnets in the pockets of the three sliders, and place the sliders in the tracks to check if the magnets are the right orientation.
- (optional) Put a drop of superglue in the pockets to hold the magnets in place.
- Put the sliders into the slots of the top piece by turning them 90 degrees one way and then 90 degrees back.
- Place the top with the sliders over the base, ensuring that the magnets don't fall out and the sliders sit inside the tracks.
- Push the sliders back and forth to ensure they're running smoothly; sometimes light sanding or a bit of candle wax can help increase smoothness.
- Screw all four corners down
- Pull out a game and track some points!
Tips
- If the sliders aren't running smoothly, ensure the sides are smooth (sand or trim with knife). You can also try adding some candle wax as a lubricant.
- If it's too noisy, try pushing down on the sliders a bit as you slide them back and forth.
Future Plans
I would love to make a version with numbers colored in a contrasting filament instead of cut out of the surface, but I don't have an AMS. Consider boosting this post to help me get there.
