RippleNest Tray

A fluid, sculpted tray generator designed to create elegant catch-all dishes with a unique organic feel. The form blends smooth outer contours with customizable internal ripple structures, giving each variation a distinct, modern aesthetic while remaining highly practical for everyday use—perfect for keys, jewelry, coins, or desk essentials.

The design is fully parametric and built to be both visually refined and easy to print, with a stable flat base and no supports required.

🔧 Parameter Guide

Main Size

  • overall_radius
    Controls the overall footprint of the tray. Increasing this makes the tray wider.
  • tray_height
    Sets the total height/depth of the tray.
  • base_thickness
    Thickness of the bottom surface. Higher values increase strength.
  • wall_thickness
    Controls how thick the outer walls are.
  • oval_squeeze
    Scales the shape along one axis, turning the tray from circular to more oval.

Organic Shape

  • wave_amplitude
    Controls how pronounced the outer waviness is. Higher values create more dramatic flowing edges.
  • wave_lobes
    Number of waves around the perimeter. Lower = smoother, higher = more intricate.
  • twist_degrees
    Rotates the wave pattern as it moves upward, creating a subtle spiral effect.
  • side_taper
    Controls how much the tray narrows toward the top.
  • surface_layers
    Number of stacked contour layers used to build the shape. Higher values = smoother curves (but slower rendering).

Interior Ripple Texture

  • ripple_count
    Number of ripple segments radiating from the center.
  • ripple_length
    How far each ripple extends outward from the center.
  • ripple_width
    Thickness of each ripple.
  • ripple_height
    Height of the ripple above the tray floor (automatically limited to fit inside the tray).
  • ripple_curve
    Controls how much each ripple bends/curves. Higher values create more flowing shapes.
  • ripple_rotation
    Rotates the entire ripple pattern for alignment or aesthetic variation.

Quality

  • shape_points
    Controls resolution of curved edges. Higher values = smoother surfaces.
