Summary

The dummy grenade replica you requested is now available!  The US Army's newest grenade, the M111 Offensive Hand Grenade.  When you pull the pin, the handle flies off.

Background: The M111 is a new U.S. Army offensive hand grenade designed to maximize blast overpressure for clearing confined urban spaces, rather than using traditional shrapnel. Featuring a plastic body that vaporizes upon detonation, it supplements the M67 fragmentation grenade by reducing collateral damage risks in enclosed areas.

Spring options (for flying handle)

  1. Metal Spring (recommended) – if you have a metal spring, even a pen spring will usually work, then print the metal spring profile.  It is designed to work with the Bambu Store's 0.5x7x12mm spring (linked lower on the page).  If you use a pen spring, you can usually cut it in half and get two springs.
  2. Plastic Spring – if you don't have a metal spring, but still want the handle to fly off, then print the plastic spring profile.
    1. If the spring eventually wears out, just print a new one and pop it in.
    2. Don't leave the spring under tension when not using it as it will wear out much faster.
    3. Avoid Matte and Silk filament for the spring itself, Basic and Metal work better.
  3. No Flying Handle - if you don't want the handle to fly off and just want a grenade model, simply print either version and don't put in a spring.

Bambu filaments used

  • Silk+ Silver
  • Metal Iron Gray Black
  • Polymaker Army Green (Amazon link)
    • Bambu Matte Dark Green works well too
  • GiantArm Silk Gold (Amazon link)
    • Bambu Silk+ Gold works too

Metal Spring Version Assembly

1. Flip the silver top upside down and insert the peg.  Make sure the peg is sticking out of the top, if not rotate 90 degrees.

2. Insert your spring into the silver top next, just like you did with the peg.

3. Screw the silver top onto the grenade – keeping the silver top upside down makes this easier (so spring doesn't fall out while screwing it on).  That's it – now you can attach the spoon handle, put in the pin, and use it – enjoy!

(this image shows a different grenade, but the assembly is exactly the same)

Boost Me (for free)

If you enjoy my work and would like to help support my ability to share more (and even better) models in the future, please consider boosting or buying me a coffee at the link below.   Your support is what helps me have enough filament and supplies to do all the print testing required for my models to be high quality and easy to assemble.  It takes a mountain of test prints for each model. Thanks :-)

Here's a link to my Buy Me a Coffee page, thanks for the support!
