This modular sifter cup is a practical sand toy for the sandpit, beach, or mud kitchen. I originally developed it for my daughter because she wanted different sieve inserts for various sand sizes.

The cup has a screw thread at the bottom, to which different sieve inserts can be attached. This allows the insert to be easily changed depending on the type of sand: fine sand, coarser sand, or even slightly damp sand can be processed better with the appropriate sieve.

Thanks to the two side handles, the cup can be held very well with both hands and shaken. Especially for children, this is more comfortable than a normal flat sieve, as they have more control when sifting and the sand doesn't fall out as easily.

Different variants of the sieve inserts are stored in the print profiles. You can therefore directly select the appropriate sieve or print several inserts and change them flexibly.

Advantages

  • Modular sieve cup with interchangeable sieve inserts
  • Various sieve sizes for fine, coarse, or slightly damp sand
  • Ideal for sandpit, beach, and mud kitchen
  • Two large handles for easy holding with both hands
  • Well suited for shaking and sifting
  • Developed and tested for children's hands
  • Cup and inserts can be printed individually
  • No support needed, depending on print orientation and profile
  • Quick and easy to reprint

Print Recommendation

The sieve cup can be easily printed in PLA or PETG. For normal sandpit play, PLA is perfectly sufficient. If you want the part to be particularly robust or more heat-resistant, you can use PETG.

Recommended settings:

  • Material: PLA or PETG
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm
  • Wall lines: 3
  • Infill: approx. 15–25 %
  • Support: usually not necessary
  • Print bed: textured or smooth PEI plate possible

Notes

The sieve inserts are screwed into the bottom of the cup. Please check briefly after printing whether the thread runs smoothly. If it's a bit tight, carefully screw the insert in and out a few times.

Depending on the sand moisture, a coarser sieve insert may work better than a very fine one.
