Description
Viking Spectacle Helmet Replica (from Gjermundbu)
This is a replica of the iconic Viking "spectacle" helmet found at Gjermundbu.
I designed this model to be a versatile piece that works equally well as a historical desk prop or the foundation for a full-scale cosplay.
A1 Mini Friendly: Since I personally use an A1 Mini, the version shown in the photos has an internal diameter of approximately 19.5 cm (a perfect fit for my youngest son ;) ). However, the model is easy to rescale to adult sizes if you have a larger print bed (you can also try to cut it in smaller parts).
Smart Assembly: To save on time and filament, the design is split into two simple parts: the spherical dome and the lower rim with spectacles. They are designed to snap together easily for a secure fit.
Clean Aesthetics: The geometry is kept fairly simple to ensure a smooth print while maintaining the rugged, historical silhouette.
Secure Strapping: The bottom rim is equipped with two integrated bars to attach chin straps, keeping the helmet secure during wear.
Aventail Ready: The holes along the bottom edge are functional! Use them to attach a chainmail neck guard (aventail) using small split rings or leather cord.
Note: I haven't included a chainmail print profile here, as there are already many excellent chainmail models available on MakerWorld to choose from.
Usage Ideas
Scale it down for a high-quality historical decor piece, or scale it up for your next Viking kit.
I’d love to see your results! If you scale this up or add a custom aventail, please upload a "Make" and share your photos! :)
