Description

A compact, fully articulated penguin designed specifically for reliable print-in-place performance. This model prints as a single piece with built-in joints that move freely right off the build plate—no assembly, no supports, no hassle.

The geometry has been tuned for consistent results on most FDM printers, with clean separations between moving parts and tolerances that help prevent fusing when printed with standard settings. Its small footprint makes it a quick, satisfying print while still delivering smooth articulation.

Great for testing printer calibration, using up filament scraps, or adding a fun, interactive model to your collection.

Key Features

  • Print-in-place mechanism (fully assembled after printing)
  • No supports required
  • Optimized tolerances for reliable joint movement
  • Compact size for fast prints
  • Beginner-friendly, but satisfying for all skill levels

Recommended Print Settings

  • Layer height: 0.16–0.2 mm
  • Nozzle: 0.4 mm
  • Infill: 10–15% (grid or gyroid)
  • Walls: 2–3
  • Print speed: Moderate (40–60 mm/s for best results)
  • Bed adhesion: Brim optional for smaller beds

Material Suggestions

  • PLA: Best for ease and clean articulation
  • PETG: Works well, but ensure good cooling to prevent sticking
  • Avoid very soft TPU unless tuned carefully

Tips

  • Make sure your first layer is well calibrated—too much squish can fuse joints
  • Allow the print to fully cool before flexing
  • Gently free the joints after printing by slowly moving each segment

If you print and enjoy it, consider uploading a make—I'd love to see your penguins!
