Tough Tethered EDC Container w/ AA Battery Insert
Print Profile(1)

Description
Design:
I've noted many containers used for storing and carrying of items in the outdoors. I enjoy the outdoors in many ways, and created a design which has worked out well. I hate losing lids, and this is a simple way to keep track of said lid, by creating a tether, and designing in such a way, as to provide a functional, useful, and pleasing Tough Tethered Container for EDC or several outdoor activities like hiking, target practice, off-roading, or hunting.
As a continuation of my first published model Tough Tethered Container, I've made a few refinements, and learned a bit more about modeling. Plenty of learning to go, but I think I've created a more useful version. The updated model switches gears in dealing with how to tether a lid, and be easy to open, BUT stay securely closed, without fighting the paracord. I changed to a Snap-Lock type locking system, following the guidance of several YouTube creators. It's not unique, but very functional. I've included a more refined gripping design, along with a texture to assist in same. Be warned, it is a tight lock, and will produce a very secure closure. If you print with Glass Fiber or Carbon Fiber filament, you gain more grip and an even more snug closure.
Inserts:
In addition, and while learning, I created several Inserts for the container. AA Battery being the first. The insert holds 20x AA Batteries.
I've also created inserts for several rifle ammunition (Ammo) types, including 5.56 NATO, 300 BLK, 30.06 Springfield, 30-30 Win, .243 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, & 308 Win. If interested, let me know, and I'll include these as separate models for ease of access.
The inserts should slide in perfectly, at least they currently do on my prints. If you know you'll never change them out, you can simply glue them in place permanently. Included in the design of the inserts, is the text for the particular insert. If you have an AMS, simply choose a contrasting color for easy ID.
Tether:
The tether is simply 4 mm, 550 paracord, which is used to “tether” the lid to the bottom. Use your imagination with the multitude of paracord related beads, knots, aglets, or simply slightly melting the ends. I've included simple Hexagon shaped versions I created.
Shout out to Mister Pebbles for his excellent Treaded Shoelace Stopper, which can be used as an aglet/stopper.
I've also designed my own “bead” label, keeping with the theme, which includes editable text. If making several, and you stack them up, this little label will make it easier to readily identifying whatever insert you've chosen to print. Or maybe name the owner of the container, etc.
I also like to include a small carabiner, to hook on paracord, straps, or nails.
Filament:
I've printed in PETG primarily, because if used outdoors, will provide a measure of protection from warping. I've used both smooth and Glass Filled PETG, and they print nicely. The Glass Filled provides an amazing grip service. See Documentation for Print settings utilized for my printer.
Filaments utilized:
- Sunlu PETG (Bright White, Ceramic White, Klein Blue, & Olive Green)
- ESUN PETG (Solid Blue, Solid Red)
- Tinmorry PETG-GL (Petg-gf-frosted Lilac Purple) LOVE this one!!
I hope you find it a useful print.
P.S.- I'm working on taller, as well as thinner versions, in addition to more inserts. Let me know your ideas, if you feel inclined to do so.
