Description
The world did not need another printable utility knife, but I made one anyway. After 6+ months of testing, tweaking, and printing way too many versions, this is KNIFEY. A tiny 7 gram plastic utility knife with a satisfying click, smooth slide, and solid blade retention. If you want an even smaller knife, check out Knifey Micro (X-acto 11 blades).
The tolerances are tight and you must lubricate for it to slide properly. This is by design.
Printing tips:
- As always, make sure your bed is clean and sticky. I don't want to be seeing no bullshit reviews about fitment because the parts warped or the first layer is a mess.
- 0.16 layer height.
- Walls and infill to your heart's content. Works well with default minimums.
- Filament:
- Best: PLA Tough+
Strong, springy, smooth, and the most satisfying overall. - Good: PETG
Works well. Feels a little looser. - Okay: Basic PLA
Works, but feels stiffer and has more friction. - Avoid stiff exotic filaments like PPA-CF. They will not work.
- Best: PLA Tough+
Assembly:
- Use a standard utility blade. The Milwaukee 3x utility blades are inexpensive and sharp.
- Fully seat the blade into the cover. There should be no air gap between the blade and the cover.
Slide the blade and cover in. It will take a small amount of force for the retention bumps to go over the little ramp.

Make sure you lubricate! I use Super Lube grease. A little dab will do ya.

Disassembly:
- This is not intended to be disassembled. So don't. However, if you insist:
- Put some tape on the blade if it's your first time taking it apart. So you don't mess yourself up. But if you do, send pics.
The trick is to pull the top edge of the cover away from the main body, and then the blade can be slid out.
You might need to watch this like 10 times before you understand what I am doing. We're just getting the bumps on the cover over the little ramp.
You can tweak the blade dimensions, tolerances, and retention strength using the Customize tool in your desktop browser.
