Description

This project allows you to mount the HawkEye FishTrax 1C fish finder/locater into a Garmin nonskid friction mount base, using a GoPro style mount. When in the base, Fishtrax will be able to spin 360 degrees and rotate approximately from 80 degrees to 230 degrees. The project has gear teeth which mesh with the base and can also be locked into the base if desired. This example shows an older Garmin nonskid friction mount base, and I believe (but have not tested) this project will also work the newer Garmin 010-10747-02 Dashboard Mount that is compatible with other aftermarket beanbag nonskid friction mount bases.

 

Print recommendations -
Use PETG filament to withstand outdoor elements.
Rectangular backer piece, select the Sparse infill pattern as Rectilinear along with a Sparse infill density of 100% for strength
Base piece with gear teeth, enable Support

 

Hardware required -

    Stainless steel is recommended to reduce the likelihood of rust

    1 - 5mm .80 pitch 20mm hex bolt
    1 - 5mm .80 pitch wing nut or a 5mm .80 pitch nut if you don't want to grind the wing nut
    1 - 5mm lock washer for the nut side

 

This design uses existing knurled bolts from the Fish Locator's battery case. You'll need to remove E clips from the knurled bolts and reinstall them after pushing the knurled bolts through the backer piece so the bolts stay attached to the backer piece when it’s removed to change batteries.

 

Note that the wings need to be ground down to allow spinning when tightening it, or you can use a conventional nut if you don't want to grind the wings off the wing nut, however you will then need to use a small wrench for adjusting unit rotation.

 

The first time you thread the 5mm hex bolt through the printed pieces, spin the bolt head up to the recessed bolt head retainer and line up the bolt head hex pattern with the recessed area hex pattern. Spin on the lock washer and wing nut until it touches the surface opposite the bolt head, then slowly tighten the wing nut to pull the bolt head into the recess, while ensuring holt head and recess alignment.

 

There is an extra hole in the middle of the backer in case you want to mount a small GoPro style camera to the base instead of the FishTrax 1C.
