Description

DomiFoot – Vertical Stand for Festool DF500/DF700

A Precision Base Upgrade Inspired by TSO BigFoot

I frequently use the Festool Domino DF500, but the original Additional Stop has several well-known limitations that affect accuracy and usability:

  • Cumulative error when indexing from previous mortises
  • Limited rigidity, leading to slight misalignment
  • User pressure sensitivity, which can distort spacing
  • Bulky arms that interfere with smaller workpieces

While there are some community-designed alternatives available online, they also come with compromises:

  • Insufficient vertical support, causing flex and deformation
  • Incompatibility with Festool’s original Cross Stop
  • Limited functionality and adjustability

Introducing DomiFoot

To solve these issues, I redesigned the system from the ground up and created DomiFoot – a multifunctional Domino base / vertical stand, inspired by the concept of the TSO BigFoot Domino accessory.

DomiFoot retains the core advantages of BigFoot while introducing further improvements.

Key Advantages

✔ Wide and rigid support base

  • Significantly improves stability
  • Prevents tilting and micro-movement
  • Enables more confident and repeatable plunges

✔ Improved alignment visibility

Compared to BigFoot-style setups, DomiFoot features enhanced sightlines, making it easier to align with layout marks.

✔ Vertical support capability

Designed with reinforced vertical structure, avoiding the flex issues seen in other 3D-printed models.

✔ Cross Stop compatibility

Fully compatible with Festool original Cross Stop, expanding its usability instead of replacing existing workflows.

Iterative Design

This model has gone through multiple design iterations and real-world testing. After continuous refinement, it has reached a highly reliable and practical state for daily workshop use.

Two Versions Available

🔹 Standard Version (Integrated)

  • Base and handle printed as one piece
  • Handle top features a thumb recess for better control
  • Increased friction for improved grip
  • Simple, strong, and ready to use

    Assembly:

    • Attaches directly to the Domino base
    • Recommended hardware: M5 × 15 thumb screws
    • For better usability, adjustable clamping screws (e.g. L-shaped / Y-shaped thumb screws) are highly recommended
    • Also fully compatible with the original Additional Stop thumb screws, which can be reused

🔹 Deluxe Version (Modular)

  • Base and handle are separate components
  • Allows use of a larger ergonomic handle for better comfort
  • Detachable design maintains clear sightlines during alignment

    Assembly:

    • Base mounts to the Domino machine the same way as the Standard version
    • Use M6 × 45 hex bolt
    • Secure with an M6 nut

Auxiliary Fence (Usage Guide)

DomiFoot is designed not just as a base, but as an auxiliary fence system that significantly expands the capability of the Domino.

⭐ Wide Panel Face Mortising (Key Feature)

When used in conjunction with an auxiliary fence, DomiFoot enables wide panel face mortising with both speed and precision.

  • Provides a stable reference across large surfaces
  • Maintains consistent alignment over long distances
  • Eliminates cumulative error from chained indexing
  • Greatly improves efficiency on cabinet panels, doors, and large boards

👉 This turns the Domino into a practical solution for panel-wide joinery, which is difficult to achieve reliably with the stock setup.

✔ Edge Referencing

  • Place the auxiliary fence firmly against the workpiece edge
  • Slide along the edge to position each mortise
  • Ensures consistent spacing without cumulative error

✔ Vertical Mortising Support

  • Reinforced structure provides stability on upright workpieces
  • Ideal for:
    • Cabinet sides
    • Narrow boards
    • Edge joinery

✔ Repeatable Workflow

  • Slide → align → plunge
  • Fast, consistent, and low effort

✔ Compatible Workflows

  • Works with layout lines for maximum precision
  • Compatible with Festool Cross Stop for hybrid setups

Design Philosophy

DomiFoot is built around a simple idea:

Turn the Domino into a stable, fence-referenced system — not a chained indexing tool.

The result is:

  • Higher accuracy
  • Better repeatability
  • More intuitive operation

If you’re looking for a more stable, precise, and flexible way to use your DF500/DF700, DomiFoot is a practical upgrade worth trying.
