Description
š UPDATED VERSION: MEGA POTATO CANNON 2.0
Bigger, Stronger, Louder ā Fully Compatible ā Now with Smart Tech? I have optimized the original design: This version features a significantly enlarged combustion chamber to hold more fuel-air mixture, resulting in much higher power and a louder bang.
š Best part: This new, massive chamber features the exact same thread pitch as the original version. You can use all your existing custom barrels and attachments from the previous model without needing to re-print them!
š„ BOOM! Bored? Build this! This is a fully functional, 3D-printed combustion cannon that shoots potato plugs or BBs using 99% isopropyl alcohol.
š What's new in this version?
- Maximized Combustion Chamber: Drastically increased volume for a more powerful explosion.
- Total Barrel Compatibility: 100% compatible with the thread of the original/smaller versions. Use your old barrels!
- Optimized Grip: Designed to stay ergonomic and stable despite the larger size.
- Reinforced Threads: Beefed up to ensure a safer and tighter seal under higher pressure.
š READ INSTRUCTIONS BELOW! š
š Bill of Materials (BOM):
- 1x Stick Lighter / Grill Lighter: (Crucial! Use the piezo igniter with the long wires found in stick lighters).
- 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA): In a small spray/mist bottle.
- Glue: Super glue (CA glue) or hot glue.
- Tool: A sewing needle.
- Optional: Small NFC Sticker/Chip: For the new smart features!

š§ Smart Features: NFC Chip Integration (Optional)
The flat back of the combustion chamber is perfect for attaching a small NFC sticker! If you want to take your build to the next level, here are a few fun ideas for what you can program that chip to do when you tap your smartphone against it:
- Direct Link to Assembly Video: Instant access to the instructions in case your wires come loose.
- The "Safety Check" Routine: Program it to open a specific checklist app where you must mark off safety points (e.g., "Barrel cleared," "Oxygen vented") before you can "log" a shot.
- Digital "Kill Count": Use a simple counting app to log every time you fire, keeping a virtual tally of your targets (e.g., "Total Potatoes Terminated: 42").
- Instant Sound Effects: Have your phone play a massive "BOOM" sound simultaneously with the firing (requires an app that triggers sounds on NFC tap).
- Bragging Rights: Encode your social media profile or a link to this MakerWorld page so you can easily show your friends how they can build their own.
This adds zero function to the firing, but 100% function to the fun!

āļø Technical Note on Threads
This design uses the same thread size as the original model. If you already printed the older, smaller version, you only need to print the new large chamber and grip. You do NOT need to print new barrels. Simply screw your old ones onto this new beast.

š ļø Assembly Instructions:
- Prepare the Igniter: Disassemble your stick lighter and remove the piezo ignition mechanism (keep the wires attached!).
- Installation: Insert the igniter into the slot at the bottom of the printed handle.
- The Hot Needle Trick: Heat a sewing needle and carefully poke two small holes through the plastic into the new, large combustion chamber.
- Wiring: Push the two ignition wires through these holes into the chamber.
- Sealing: Seal the wire entry points completely airtight using super glue or hot glue. This is vital for power!
š„ Assembly Help / Video Guide: If you are unsure how to install the piezo igniter, watch this: š Assembly Tutorial (YouTube) (Jump to 3:40). Note: The video shows a different cannon design, but the installation process for the igniter and wires is exactly the same.
š„ How to Fire:
- Unscrew the barrel (your original or a new one).
- Vent it: Wave the open chamber through the air for a second. Fresh oxygen is even more important for the larger chamber to get a good bang!
- Fuel it: Give one (or maybe two, due to the size) small sprays of 99% IPA into the chamber.
- Close it: Screw the barrel back on tightly.
- Load it: Press the tip of the barrel into a raw potato to punch out a perfect plug (or insert a fitting plastic BB).
- Fire: Aim safely and click the igniter. BOOM!
ā ļø Disclaimer & Safety:
- Use at your own risk!
- This is not a toy for children.
- Never aim at people, animals, or fragile objects.
- Be mindful of heat buildup if firing in rapid succession.
