Mecha Blastoise Multi-Color Parted Statue
------
Updated on May 23: Uploaded a massive 600mm tall version, now compatible with the jumbo-sized Mewtwo model.
------
1. Concept & Design
This Mecha Blastoise statue transforms the classic Blastoise into a heavily armored siege-class unit, designed with a focus on overwhelming firepower and battlefield stability.
Unlike agile-based designs, this version emphasizes mass, weight distribution, and artillery dominance, creating a presence that feels immovable—like a walking fortress.
The dual shoulder-mounted cannons are reinterpreted as high-caliber siege launchers, with reinforced barrel housing and mechanical locking structures. The head unit maintains Blastoise’s iconic silhouette but sharpens it with angular plating and a narrowed visual sensor, giving it a more aggressive, tactical expression.
The chest armor features layered plating that suggests a central pressure-resistant core, while the limbs are thickened and faceted to resemble hydraulic-powered armor segments. The overall geometry leans into low center-of-gravity design, making the figure feel grounded and powerful from every angle.
The shell is no longer just protection—it becomes a full weapons platform, integrating the cannon system directly into the structure, visually merging biology and machinery into a single war-ready entity.
2. Engineering & Printability
This model is designed as a true multi-part, multi-color assembly, optimized for real-world 3D printing workflows.
All color separations—including armor plates, claws, cannons, and facial components—are achieved through independent parts, eliminating the need for AMS or mid-print color switching. This dramatically reduces print complexity and lowers the risk of long-duration failures.
Assembly tolerances are intentionally set with slightly loose clearances to accommodate printer variation and filament shrinkage.
Recommended assembly method:
- Use cyanoacrylate (super glue) for all structural joints
- Apply light heat (heat gun) to contact surfaces before bonding to improve adhesion strength
- Internal seams are designed to be naturally concealed by armor layering
The cannon modules are engineered as separate large components, allowing easier printing orientation and improved surface quality.
3. Display & Customization
Even without additional painting, the model achieves a striking visual presence through its color-blocked mechanical segmentation:
- Deep blue body structure
- Yellow armored chest plating
- Metallic gray artillery system and shell framework
- Subtle red eye accents for a focused, combat-ready expression
For advanced finishing, creators can enhance the model with:
- Edge highlighting to emphasize mechanical geometry
- Barrel burn effects or carbon scoring on the cannons
- Subtle weathering on armor edges for battlefield realism
- Matte vs metallic contrast to increase visual depth
This piece is especially suited for low-angle photography, where the oversized cannons and forward stance create a strong sense of scale and intimidation.
4. Conclusion
The “Siege Artillery Frame” Blastoise is designed as a frontline breaker unit—a mechanical reinterpretation that prioritizes power, stability, and presence.
It represents a balance between:
- Sculptural design
- Practical multi-part engineering
- Reliable print execution
This model is ideal not only as a display statue, but also as a high-satisfaction assembly project for makers who enjoy precise, structured builds.
More mech-class Pokémon units are currently in development—each exploring a different combat role and design philosophy.
Quick Tip
- For large-part prints (especially cannons), ensure strong bed adhesion to prevent warping
- Keep filament dry—metallic finishes are especially sensitive to moisture
- Use support blockers strategically to preserve visible surfaces
- Needle-nose pliers + scraper tools help significantly when cleaning cannon interiors and tight gaps
