Description
This is an 11 × 17 paper tray that I designed and use at work. I needed something sturdy, and the only other design I found wasn’t strong enough to support stacking. This version holds 11 × 17 (Tabloid/Ledger) paper and is built to be much more durable. As shown in the images, it can support significantly more weight than a full load of paper without any issues.
Assembly Notes (Important)
Each tray base is made from multiple sections that connect using interlocking tab inserts (the “bowtie” inspired connectors shown in the photos).
- The tabs will snap into place, but this may not be strong enough on its own. I use 5 minute epoxy to really hold things together.
- You should apply 5 minute epoxy to each tab insert and glue it into the base pieces during assembly.
- You should also apply 5 minute epoxy along the seams where the base sections meet, bonding all base pieces into one solid panel.
The side walls slide together but do not lock, so epoxy should also be applied along all side joints to keep everything secure.
Once each tray is fully assembled, I recommend epoxying stacked trays together if you plan to use multiple levels, as this greatly improves overall rigidity.
