Description
In the pantheon of world cinema, few works rival the profound cultural and philosophical impact of Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975). This tour de force, masterfully helmed by the Terrys (Gilliam and Jones), transcends mere comedy to become a deeply moving exploration of the human quest for meaning in an absurd universe.
Here, then, is a collection of the primary characters from this seminal and transformative work of celluloid art. All should print easily with the included profile (from an X1C printer). All require supports but I have set the z distances to .4mm (twice the default layer height) to make them easier to remove. Most of the examples were printed with supports on build plate only, but some might benefit from having this setting turned off. Tree supports are used throughout. Be careful when removing supports from swords, fingers, horns etc so you don't break anything.
Note: One of the primary characters--the shrubberies--has been left out. Too many triangles and there were more supports than there were leaves.
“Removing supports from my 3D-printed shrubbery is easy,” said no one ever. One wrong snip and suddenly it’s not a shrubbery… ’tis but a flesh wound to the entire foliage. I also didn't do Dennis (not quite interesting enough) or the ”I'm not dead" guy. Neither did I do “Sir not appearing in this film.” And there's only one Knight Who Says “Ni” because, well, let's face it—they're no longer the Knights Who Say “Ni” anyway so what's the point?
I had a little stringiness on some models under the hems of gambesons, bottoms of chainmail, etc. but I just pulled that off and it looks fine to me.
You will probably have the best luck using Adaptive Layer Height on the models that have horns or other thin protrusions on their heads, like The Knight Who Says Ni. In fact, learn how to use it and just apply it to all of them for the best quality.
The movie's influence on society is incalculable—every subsequent satirical work owes it a debt. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is not just essential viewing; it is a vital piece of our shared cultural heritage, as important today as it was fifty years ago. Show your love of this monumental film by printing and displaying the entire collection.
Feel free to print with the Bambu Marble filament for a statuesque quality to your prints, or choose something more generic like white PLA if you plan to hand-paint.
If you feel led to paint some or all of these, we'd love to see your completed .3mf files uploaded here. I do have a painted “Black Knight” but he needs some work before he can be uploaded here. I'll upload him separately when I have time to do some modifications.
