Description
Previously, I used a water barrier for the cat food bowl, which had to be replaced regularly, and still, now and then, an ant managed to crawl to the dry food. The solution was a permanent barrier that requires no maintenance and lasts for months/years. So far, no insect has managed to get into the bowl (on foot).
Base:
It is equipped with a separated area inside that can hold the adhesive barrier and prevents, for example, ants from reaching the transition.
Barrier:
I filled it with “tree glue gel” or "insect glue", which spreads on its own and lasts a very long time (odorless). It is normally used for glue bands on trees.
Thread:
A plug connection would certainly have been possible too, but so far it has been quite practical and stable this way. The threaded part (screw) only needs to be printed separately and glued to the underside of the plate. I used 2K adhesive for this.
Attachment (Plate):
It is only a holder for the actual bowl with a threaded piece glued to the underside. It can be scaled to some extent to fit other containers. If you omit the rim, you could also print the threaded piece directly with it, but then there's a risk that the bowl might slide off. It is sufficient to screw the attachment in until it sits securely and without wobbling, as the thread may not be 100% accurate over its entire length.
The small indentation on the underside of the attachment marks the center for exact thread placement when gluing.
Material: I recommend PETG or a similar, durable material
I am happy to receive any other suggestions for improvement.
