Mi Light Bar mount for Apple Studio Display VESA

This is a custom lamp mount designed specifically for the Apple Studio Display and Apple Pro Display XDR, but it should also work with the standard Studio Display.

Unlike the original solution, this design does not use a counterweight mechanism. Instead, it slots directly into the groove located in the display’s mounting structure, providing a simple and stable fit.

The mount is specifically engineered to avoid blocking the built-in camera and microphones positioned at the top of the display, which is a common issue with the original Xiaomi Mi Light Bar mount.

For correct operation, you need the original Apple USB Type-C to USB Type-C braided cable with a short connector. Alternatively, any USB-C cable with a sufficiently short connector will work, as it must fit within the curved space of the mount.

You will also need to disassemble the original Xiaomi Mi Light Bar mount and extract:

• the magnetic module with contact pads
  

• the PCB with the USB Type-C port

  

These components are reused in the custom mount.

 

To disassemble the Xiaomi Mi Light Bar mount:

1. Remove the side cover on the hinge.
2. Push out the metal pin using a thin object such as a paperclip.
3. This will expose two screws, remove them.
4. Two additional screws are hidden under the rubber pad.
5. Peel back the rubber pad near the lamp mount to access and remove these screws.

Once disassembled, remove the magnetic module and the PCB with the USB Type-C input.

For proper operation in the new mount, slightly bend the contacts so they touch the corresponding contacts on the USB Type-C connector. Soldering is optional; in most cases, direct contact works reliably.

After assembly, it is recommended to secure all parts using cyanoacrylate glue to ensure the structure remains rigid and does not loosen over time.
