The rotation to create artificial gravity is a classic element of hard science fiction, present on both the grand scale of solar systems and the compact scale of spacecraft. 

The gravity carousel in the spacecraft from 2001: A Space Odyssey is a ring-shaped rotating deck installed inside the crew compartment, which simulates gravity through centrifugal force. 

This setting is not an imaginary invention — centrifugal force, a type of inertial force, generates an outward centrifugal effect on objects when the rotating cabin drives them to move in a circle. This effect counteracts the physiological impacts of space microgravity on the human body, allowing astronauts to maintain a terrestrial-like rhythm of life and work.
The carousel operates at a rotational speed of just over 5 revolutions per minute, creating a lunar-level gravity environment. 

This ingenious sci-fi concept serves as the core inspiration for the clock design: the design creatively translates the "spatial order" from the film into a tangible "temporal order."
The clock dial fully replicates the annular structure of the centrifugal cabin. Key living compartments of the spacecraft, such as the kitchen, medical area, and communication station, are accurately restored on the dial in the form of miniature markers, recreating the detailed texture of the sci-fi scene.
The minute hand is rendered as a lifelike astronaut figure. Every full rotation it completes around the dial signifies not merely the natural passage of one hour, but also stands as a poetic parallel to the astronauts' movements inside the spacecraft cabin in the film, accomplishing a "space run" that transcends the boundary between the silver screen and reality.

The hour hand incorporates HAL 9000 as a classic visual Easter egg. This iconic artificial intelligence floats within the miniature cabin space, silently watching over and guarding this tiny spacecraft module, just as it does in the film.
