Description
This project is a remix and extension of the 10" rack hot-swappable drive tray, redesigned to work with fully 3D-printed HDD cradles.
The goal of this remix is to create a completely printable drive system, eliminating the need for external caddies or additional hardware. The tray has been adapted to properly accommodate custom cradles, ensuring a secure fit and smooth insertion/removal of the drives.
The included HDD cradle is also a remix (https://makerworld.com/en/models/779768-no-part-installation-daier-daier-hard-drive-tray-s#profileId-2979549), specifically designed to integrate with this tray and provide a consistent, modular solution across the entire setup.
This combined approach allows for:
- a fully 3D-printable ecosystem
- easier replication and customization
- quick replacement of individual parts
- a cleaner and more cohesive design
Hardware / Parts Needed
To complete this build you will need a minimal set of standard components:
- SATA backplane / adapter (for hot-swap support)
Required to enable proper hot-plug functionality for the drives. AliExpress / Amazon - HDD mounting screws (bottom mount)
Standard PC hard drive screws (UNC 6-32).
Note: this design uses bottom mounting only, as side mounting is not supported due to space constraints. - Threaded inserts (M3 x 3 x 4.2 mm)
Used instead of traditional nuts for an easier assembly. - M3 x 10 knurled hex head screws
Designed to be tightened with pliers from the back, making assembly easier.
All other structural components (tray and cradles) are fully 3D printable.
Note:
This project builds upon the original tray design and extends it with a custom cradle system. Credit goes to the original creators for their work.
