A scale model of the legendary AH-1 HueyCobra. This design features a modular construction with two distinct printing options to balance surface finish. This version represents a "clean" configuration with a modular nose cutout without the nose mounted turret, this provide a more civilian-style aesthetic.
Background Information
The AH-1 Cobra is a single-engine attack helicopter developed by Bell Helicopter. A member of the prolific Huey family, the AH-1 is also referred to as the HueyCobra or Cobra.
Development & Vietnam Heritage
The AH-1 was rapidly developed as an interim gunship in response to the United States Army's needs in the Vietnam War. It utilized the engine, transmission, and rotor system of the proven Bell UH-1 Iroquois, pairing them with a redesigned narrow fuselage. The Model 209 prototype performed its maiden flight on September 7, 1965, and entered service by June 1967. In the Vietnam War alone, the Cobra fleet accumulated over one million operational hours.
Design & Combat Philosophy
The visual design of the Cobra was intentionally sleek. It featured a relatively narrow fuselage and a then-unusual tandem cockpit arrangement, covered by a large fighter-like canopy.
Tandem Seating: The gunner occupied the forward seat, while the pilot sat in the rear.
Performance: Compared to armed UH-1s, the Cobra carried twice the ammunition, arrived on station in half the time, and had three times the loiter time.
Tactics: The Cobra typically avoided hovering during engagements, instead maintaining speed and mobility. It often operated in "hunter-killer" teams, pairing with scout helicopters like the OH-6A Cayuse or OH-58 Kiowa to flush out and eliminate targets.

Description
Fuselage and tail are split vertically as one unit.
Tail section is printed separately from the main body.
Pros
Superior Strength: Landing skids are printed in a more durable orientation.
Superior Finish: Eliminates "layer stepping" on the tapered tail boom.
Cons
Minor "stair-stepping" visible on the top of the tail.
Landing skids are thinner and more fragile during the print.

Warning: The rotor mast and tail rotor shaft are quite thin. This model does not use bearings. Please assemble carefully and ensure the spinning parts are clear of any stray filament and be gentle when rotating. Do not use high-speed air or motors to spin the rotors, as the friction may snap the plastic.
