Description
Melqart (or Melkart) was the chief deity of Tyre, considered the Phoenician god of the king, the city, trade, and navigation. As "Baal of Tyre" (lord of Tyre), his cult spread throughout the Mediterranean, being fundamental in Cádiz (Gadir). Subsequently, the Greeks and Romans identified him with Hercules (Heracles), merging their cults
