🐒🥊 Boxy Monkey – Modular Flexi Boxer Toy
Meet Boxy Monkey, a cute, flexible toy monkey boxer, complete with subtle muscles and loads of personality. Designed to be both fun and functional, this little fighter is made up of 24 individual pieces with articulated joints, allowing you to pose and animate it in many different positions.
This project is the result of 3 months of work, with extensive print testing and redesign to achieve very precise tolerances so every joint moves smoothly and reliably. If the Boxy Monkey gets enough downloads I'm planning to add more accessories, funny things such an hilarious helmet, rockets to swap with gloves and so forth and maybe a different belt and more textured shorts.
In the photos, the model body parts are printed using WOOD PLA, which gives a subtle natural roughness that nicely mimics the look and feel of monkey skin and hair. If you’re interested in the same filament, you can find it here, if you have a skin colour PLA will give a beautiful natural translucency to the ears:
WOOD PLA for the body parts

RED BRICK PLA from SUNLU for gloves, helmet and belt adding a rich contrast

WHITE SUNLU PLA for the shorts completing the classic boxer look

Very important to first insert the pin into the elbow's hole, make sure it's the right way foward, then raise the harm up and insert the ball joint in the body very very gently, now you can insert the glove. Make sure you gently insert the pin all the way down, remember the pin once in won't come out. The rest of the assembly is straight forward

For best results, the small fine details were printed with a 0.2 mm nozzle at 0.06 mm layer height, while the rest of the parts were printed with a 0.4 mm nozzle at 0.16 mm layer height for the optimal balance between quality and print time.
Because the tolerances are very tight and precise, results may vary slightly depending on your printer and filament. Different PLA brands can shrink differently, so minor adjustments or light post-processing may be needed to get the perfect fit on your setup.
The fully modular design brings two big advantages:
- If a part breaks, you can reprint only that piece
- You can create a variety of different looks by printing parts like gloves, helmet, and belt in different colors
Boxy Monkey is fun to print, assemble, and play with a great mix of character.
Range of Movements:
Head spins 360, same for the torso around the belt, legs rotate and though feet can point different directions, shoulder, elbow and wrist have a great range of motion for a tons of poses. All this allow for the character to be animated for Stop Motion animation
Features:
- 24-pieces articulated design
- Fully poseable with multiple joints
- Refined tolerances after extensive testing
- Modular parts for easy reprinting and customization
- Color customization for multiple looks
- Works great in wood PLA or standard PLA
- Optimized print settings for detail and strength
- Designed for FDM printing
A playful, customizable character that’s as fun to build as it is to pose. I only ask you to share your prints please :)
PS: I’m also planning a future opponent character, The Boxy Bear 🐻🥊. It should take less time to develop since I’ll be reusing much of this design, but with some fun and unique changes.
